Why get a Nepal eSIM?

Whether you are exploring Kathmandu's temples, paragliding over Pokhara, or starting a trek in the Himalayas, a little data goes a long way for navigation and check-ins in Nepal.

A Nepal eSIM from Monsoon Travellers gets you online the moment you land. Buy before you travel, install over WiFi, and your data is ready as soon as you arrive. There are no airport SIM kiosks, no paperwork and no roaming bills.

Coverage and networks in Nepal

Our Nepal plans connect to Ncell, on 4G where your phone and location support it. Coverage is solid in Kathmandu, Pokhara and the lower valleys. Coverage is strongest in major cities and popular tourist areas, and as with any mobile network it can be weaker in remote or rural places.

How much data do you need for Nepal?

It depends on how you travel. As a rough guide:

  • Light use such as maps, messaging and the odd search needs about 1GB to 3GB for a short trip.
  • Everyday use with daily social, photos and some calls is comfortable on 3GB to 10GB.
  • Heavy use or longer stays with streaming, video calls or tethering suits 10GB or more, or a daily plan that refreshes each day.

How your Nepal eSIM works

Choose a plan and check out in under a minute. Your QR code arrives by email within minutes. Install it over WiFi before you fly by tapping the "Install eSIM" button or scanning the code. When you arrive in Nepal, switch on data roaming for the eSIM line and it connects automatically. You will need an eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone.

Will my phone work with a Nepal eSIM?

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you are unsure, look for an "Add eSIM" or "Add Mobile Plan" option in your phone settings.

When does my plan start?

Validity begins on first use, when your eSIM first connects to a network in Nepal, not when you buy it. You can install it days ahead over WiFi and it will not start counting down until you arrive.

Will it work while trekking?

In Kathmandu, Pokhara and on the lower trails you can expect a usable connection on Ncell. On high routes such as Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna Circuit, signal becomes patchy and often disappears at altitude, which is normal for any network there.

Can I use it in other countries?

These plans are for Nepal only. If your trip covers more than one country, our Southeast Asia and Asia regional eSIMs work across multiple countries on a single plan.
