One eSIM for your whole Asia trip

If your route crosses more than one country, a regional eSIM saves you buying a separate plan at every border. Monsoon Travellers offers two regional eSIMs: a Southeast Asia plan covering 7 countries and a wider Asia plan covering 20. Install once and the eSIM connects to a local network in each country as you travel.

Which regional plan should you choose?

The Southeast Asia eSIM covers 7 countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It suits the classic Southeast Asia loop on a single plan.

The Asia eSIM covers 20 countries: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. It reaches across South, Southeast and East Asia, so it is the one to choose if your trip mixes regions, for example pairing Thailand or Vietnam with Japan, South Korea or India.

Coverage and how it works

The eSIM connects to a local network in each country, on 4G and 5G where your phone and location support it, and selects an available network automatically as you cross borders. Keep data roaming switched on for the eSIM line throughout your trip. Coverage is strongest in cities and tourist areas and, as with any mobile network, can be weaker in remote or rural places. These are data-only plans, with no calls or SMS.

How much data do you need?

For a multi-country trip, plan around your whole route rather than a single country. As a rough guide, light use over a couple of weeks suits 5GB to 10GB, while heavier use, longer trips or tethering suit 20GB or more. If you would rather not estimate, a daily plan gives you a fresh allowance every day.

Do I need to switch anything at borders?

No. Keep data roaming on for the eSIM line and it connects to a local network automatically in each country on the plan.

Which countries are covered?

Both lists are shown above. The Southeast Asia plan covers 7 countries and the Asia plan covers 20. If your destination is not on either list, choose that country's own eSIM instead.

When does my plan start?

Validity begins on first use, when the eSIM first connects to a network, not when you buy it. You can install it over WiFi beforehand and it will not start counting down until you arrive.

Will my phone work with a regional eSIM?

Most phones from the last few years support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer. Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked.
